Joel Myers is a self-educated mycologist who’s been studying fungi for over 15 years. Born in Oklahoma and growing up with a passion for all things outdoors, he was drawn towards fungi and in 2014 co-founded Earthwise Mycology, who's goal was to teach the local community about fungi. In 2016 he relocated to Easley, South Carolina where he worked as the production and laboratory manager at the mushroom farm and research center known as Mushroom Mountain, owned by author Tradd Cotter. There he was able to work with and learn from leading mycologists to find innovative uses for fungi and all of their unique abilities. After moving back to Oklahoma in 2019, he helped found The Oklahoma Mycological Society, a non-profit based in Tulsa. His focus now is on The Oklahoma Mushroom Company, a mushroom farm and supplies company focused on teaching and providing cultivation materials to the local community.
