CANCELLED: SixTwelve Presents Artists-in-Residence: Iré Elese Abure - Somos Caribeños (We Are Caribbean)

SixTwelve, with the support of University of Central Oklahoma, University of Oklahoma, and Public Strategies, is excited to present artists-in-residence, Iré Elese Abure. The Chicago-based Afro-Cuban folkloric ensemble will be visiting the Oklahoma City metropolitan area from March 26 through March 28. The residency will include presentations, workshops and concerts at local schools and community spaces and the group will be joined by explosive Afro-Cuban dancer and choreographer, Kati Hernández. This event at SixTwelve on March 27th, Somos Caribeños (We Are Caribbean), will feature dinner by Urban Pilón and performances by Iré Elese Abure.

The events at SixTwelve and the University of Oklahoma are FREE and open to the public. All events are open to media with prior RSVP.

The name, Elese Abure, comes from the Yoruba culture that took root throughout the Americas, meaning “goodness from the hands of our brothers and sisters.” Through stage performance, the group strives to inspire others to appreciate and celebrate Afro-Cuban culture.
